  • Hi there

Unfortunately it's not possible to import all your data from another accounting package, however when you are setting up your account, you can import contacts (customers and suppliers) into FreeAgent like this: http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/c...

You can also import Contacts in CSV format. When you export contacts from Outlook in CSV format, Outlook creates a file with about 100 columns. Of these, FreeAgent imports the following:

"First Name", "Last Name", "Company", "E-mail Address", "E-mail 2 Address", "Business Street", "Business Street 2", "Business Street 3", "Business City", "Business State", "Business Postal Code", "Business Country", "Business Phone", "Mobile Phone"

If you therefore export your contacts from another package such as Sage, or create a CSV file manually you would need to rename and reorder the columns to the above (making sure to keep the wording and ordering exactly the same including the " " and deleting any columns not in this list), the contacts should upload fine. If they don't, please forward the contact file to me and our support engineer should be able to tweak the file to make it work.

If you use Basecamp for project management, you can also import projects from there into FreeAgent like this: http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/p...

As far as the numerical data goes, you would need to pick a date from which you are going to start keeping your records on FreeAgent. This doesn't have to be the date your business started, nor does it have to be today's date. It's usually best to make it the start of your business's financial year. We call this your "FreeAgent start date". There's more information about your FreeAgent start date here: http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/g...

You would then need to record your opening balances, such as money in your business bank account, and money owed to the business by your customers, or money that it owed to suppliers, as at that date. Here's more about how to enter your opening balances http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/g...

If you want to start using FreeAgent midway through your financial year, please do let us know as this can be complicated and we can help you get set up.

Once you have finished setting up your account, you can import your bank transactions into FreeAgent regularly like this: http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/b...

Does that help, please? If there is anything you are unsure of, please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

    Kind regards

    Janice
