Importing Invoices from whmcs billing software?

Hi

I'm new to free agent and currently use www.whmcs.com for the hosting side of my business due to it's automation.

Is it possible to import a CSV file which contains the invoices which whmcs are generating?

Or has anyone made an add-on to automatically connect whmcs to free agent?

Thanks

  • Hi Aaron,

Thanks for getting in touch, and it's great to hear that you are currently using FreeAgent.

Unfortunately it's not possible to import all your data from another accounting package, however when you are setting up your account, you can import contacts (customers and suppliers) into FreeAgent like this: http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/c...

Any invoices should be part of your opening balances, see here; http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/g...

These invoices logged before your FreeAgent start date need to be treated like so; http://www.freeagent.com/support/kb/g...

Basically you do not enter these invoices as invoices, because they will be part of your opening balances and the receipts after your FreeAgent start date are all you need to deal with in your FreeAgent accounts. These receipts will be explained in your bank accountwith type Other Money In and reason Receipt from initial Debtor.

I hope this helps and please do feel free to contact FreeAgent again should you need any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Charissa

    Hi Charissa

Thanks for your reply, my problem is that I currently use www.whmcs.com for my web hosting side of my business mainly due to it's automation with clients hosting packages.

This system generates invoices and captures payments etc, now if I start using freeAgent from today and WHMCS generates 10 invoices it looks like I will need to manually add these into freeAgent and manage them in 2 places?

It seems freeagent has an API which I could program so perhaps I could create an add-on for WHMCS which automatically creates a copy of invoice in freeagent, and also when it is paid via WHMCS it marks the invoice as paid in freeagent?

Would you recommend this type of approach, and do you have any pointers for developers?

    Thanks Aaron

    Hi Aaron,

You're right FreeAgent does have an API which would allow you to push invoices from WHMCS into FreeAgent assuming they have an API too.

You can see our current API docs here:

    http://www.freeagent.com/developers/f...

It's worth noting that we are close to releasing a new API with additional resources and oAuth support. You can find out more about this in our developer Google Group:

    https://groups.google.com/group/freea...

If you've got any questions about the API feel free to add them there too.

    Hope that helps!
