Mike,
It's something we are actively looking at. I'm not sure a font size large enough could be specified for the disclaimer we would have to accompany it, though!
Seriously, if you are happy to use a facility that effectively prints the form for you from numbers that you enter (or take responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of yourself), then it would be pretty straightforward.
Now, if you can persuade a sufficient number of your PCG colleagues to come aboard, I will commit to implementing this in good time for the 19th May submission deadline.
What is 'sufficient'? Try me!

Not at this time though we are looking at the implications of electronic filing across a range of documents. Be aware however we are looking at how transactions that might impact P11D are handled so that customers don't get caught out.
-
-
A facility to produce the end of year tax forms would be VERY appreciated, since the alternative to using an accountant would be to use FreeAgent in conjunction with end of year tax form production software.

The HMRC recently announced that the basic P11 calculator supplied on their 'Employer CD-ROM' will be supplemented by a facility to submit the end-of-year P14s and P35s online directly from the CD-ROM (don't you just love how understandable they like to make it sound!).
This facility will be rolled out in the new CD-ROM issued in Feb 08.
The implication is that if your situation is very simple, you may not need to burden your accountant with this activity. Your accountant would of course strongly recommended that you seek his/her advice on the correctness of your submission, of course ;->
As Dennis implies, It is likely that it will be a while before we fully implement this kind of thing ourselves - we would need to implement a complete payroll calculation engine (very tricky with lots of awkward rules and exceptions for retired Mrs Miggins if she claimed statutory maternity pay for less than 4 weeks back in 1990 except if blah blah).
However if we can do something that covers the most common circumstances, as we've started to do with our super-simple payroll calculator, we will. -

I’m
hopeful
It's all gravy, thanks guys.
My concern is about printing hard paper copies of these forms, rather than online submission. I already make our companies returns online via the Government Gateway website and although direct filing from FreeAgent would be nice, what concerns me is the ability to be able to produce a paper printout/hardcopy P60/P11d/P14 for statutory records. It would also be key to enable more of my fellow PCG members coming over to join FreeAgent. -

How many PCG referrals did you get? (This was way before the time there was a referral program!).

I'm not concerned about submitting online as much as producing the paper P60. It would be a shame to have to get other software to do this - I'm hoping to make FeeAgent my one-stop shop, currently I'm evaluating three software packages, of which FreeAgent is the newest so you've still got a little bit of time to catch up!
-
-
@MikeWilson - do tell us where 'we need to catch up' - we're always keen to know what folk want but as I'm sure you'll appreciate, we can't necessarily implement in 5 minutes. Mind you, the lads do a pretty stunning job most of the time. (I would say that though wouldn't I?) but seriously we want to know.
I'd be interested in learning from you how you think we stack against other offerings. If you want to take that discussion offline then please email me at: dahowlett [at] gmail [dot] com otherwise we can always do this out in the open here. -

Now is a really good time to bring this conversation actively back to the fora.
I'm looking like everyone else will be right now, to produce the P14/P35 PAYE EOY. As part of this a few fields need to be known, such as the expenses and mileage.
Whilst a full Payroll engine isn't expected, would it be possible to have a report or view on the data to display the fields needed for the P14/P35?
Thanks for an excellent software service.

Hi Dennis,
Apologies, my reply comes late; I didn't see your message.
I've used a variety of Payroll software and still have a review of FreeAgent "to do" on my task list. I'll ping you once this is done.
Warm Regards,

Did anything happen about this? I too am wondering if it's possible for the software to generate a P60? Don't care about online filing, like Mike - just the ability to print it out as a paper record would be great!

I'd also like the "print employee P60s at year end" capability in FAC. However, I'd be happy to use the HMRC CDROM to print them but I still need the detail (particularly the NIC contributions breakdown) from FAC to do this.
Does FAC already have a function to view the NIC table letter, LEL earnings, etc etc as is required to be provided on the P60s?
Alternatively, can anyone who is using FAC for their payroll advise on how they produced their P60s for 2009/10?
Thanks

Hello Mike and Kelly,
Unfortunately it's not possible to view this information or to print end-of-year payroll forms on FreeAgent. You'd need to use alternative payroll software (e.g. HM Revenue's CD-ROM) to do this.
Kind regards,
Emily -

Just to raise this again, the HMRC Basic PAYE Tools software is complete rubbish. I think it would be a real bonus to FAC if it could create and submit P35s, etc..
-
-
Completion and submission of P35, P11D and printing P60 would help a lot.
Is it possible to create a pole on FAC website to vote for new features? I am for the forms above.

I too would dearly like this functionality. 3 years on... what's the status of this?

This would have been helpful for me recently. It would be great if it was implemented for next year/

Seems like another thing that after 4 years has been ignored or not really looked at by FreeAgent. I love this service but the more I look the more gaps I'm finding.

It has to be said that since I moved to FreeAgent at the beginning of this tax year, I seem to be spending alot more time doing accounts. Things that I had previously taken for granted just don't happen and I then find myself trawling the forum looking for solutions (only to find there isn't one) when I could be doing something more productive.
From this thread it seems like I need to allocate additional time for my end of year payroll processing.
Don't get me wrong FA. I love the interface and the ability to do work online. What I am not so enthusiastic about is being tied to my desk all night doing things I thought had been automated years ago. -

Can you please share what you were using before? - any ideas what the next step will be?

I'm starting to think that Free Agent was put together with lots of VC funding, which has since died off and their reclaiming that cost. There seems to be a lack of any decent development over the past year and a half, common forms like this and the ability to attach scanned timesheets are standard for most contracts.
I'm beginning to think your SaaS is stagnating; don't lose what you've worked so hard for, continuous integration folks! New development, retain the skills and work on some fairly important things - no feature bloat, just functional essentials!- view 2 more comments

FreeAgent does look like a few good contractors got their acts together to solve a common problem. You can always spot when a developer is both conjurer and consumer of their software, it stinks of quality! :)
Maybe there's a skills gap to develop these things we nag about? Then maybe a well placed ad looking for benevolent developers and time to consider open-sourcing some aspects of the API are in order for the sake of the product. -

Hello everyone,
Adam to answer your first point - FreeAgent definitely hasn't run out of funding. In fact we've been growing rapidly over the past 2 years - the team has quadrupled in the past 12 months alone!
Steve does make a good point, as software matures it does take longer to get stuff done, but we're nowhere near hitting a wall, and we've released some major new features in the past few months including:
* attaching timesheets to emails is now possible
* Automated bank feeds from Barclays and soon to be other banks
* A completely new API
* And a completely redesigned interface is just around the corner
So it's not like we've not been busy. Behind the scenes we've also spent a lot of time on our accounting engine, making it more robust and scalable. This is essential work, but it has hindered our ability to deliver some of the accounting features like P11/P60. I'll be totally honest about that, but an accurate, stable and secure accounting engine underpinning the app is the most important thing for us - I'm sure you'll agree with that, and it's a big focus for us for the next few months here.
So not the answer you're hoping for I guess, but all I can give you is an honest explanation for the long delay. We'll keep you posted as and when we're able to make progress. -

It would have been handy to have this. Maybe next year?

On the P11d subject: My accountant asks for expenses by category. I have to manually create this from the "My Expenses" listing. I could probably use a profit loss report but my company's tax year isn't April to April, so that doesn't really work out.
If not P11d, perhaps more ad-hoc reporting? -
-
Last working day for filing P35 documents so I guess the pressure is off for another 12 months.
Please try and make it a happier experience for me next time round. Having just used the HMRC software and succeeded (i think?) I don't know whether to breath a sigh of relief or open up the drinks cabinet.
Bit of both maybe. -
