Hello,
I am currently trialling FA and have tried to create a recurring weekly expense for 'use of home' but it does not seem to actual recur in each week/month. Am I doing the obvious wrong?

1Lynne,
Currently we only recur each expense (or indeed invoice) as the date arises for it to be recreated.
We're going to update FreeAgent in the next month or so to support the behaviour you're probably expecting: that you should be able to create a sequence of historical recurring expenses leading up to today, right?-
lynuslynne July 14, 2008 15:13Thanks Ed. Sorry for delay. So are you saying that recurring expenses created for future recurring events does work and that historical ones do not? If so, can you advise on the quickest way to add half a year's worth of working from home expenses? I'm trying to retrofit FA to my company, which started in Oct-07. Thanks.EditDeleteRemove

I created a recurring out-of-pocket expense, recurring monthly, starting Jan 08.
But it seems to do a grand total of nothing!
Duplicate entries aren't created for every month. Nor do they appear under the client project to which I'm billing them.
This is daft! :( -

Robert - sorry, we're not there with the ability to create 'historical recurring' expenses - FreeAgent only creates future recurring ones as and when the recur date comes up.
We're moving this up our priority list, and we'll keep you posted as to when it's imminent. -

I too would like to be able to 'retro fit' a recurring expense from a date in the past up until an end date (which also may be in the past).
I'm using FreeAgent to calculate last years tax return and it's doing a *fantastic job*, up until I tried to add Use Of Home from April 2007 - April 2008.
In the absence of this functionality is the best method to manually add each occurrence as an individual expense to provide me with the calculations I require? -

Yes, you need to add each historical expense for now - sorry. -

Hello,
Just to update everyone on this.
As should be pretty clear, this slipped horrendously off our to-do list, and I can only apologise for not keeping you all updated.
It's not something we're working on at the moment, but it is still a reasonably common feature request so I'll be adding it to the Depot to gauge interest.

This helps us prioritise features for upcoming development work. -

Just noticed when I add a recurring expense, it just says: "Recurs Weekly, next recurs on 2007-09-12" :( - Hope to see this fixed in the near future.

Is there any update to the "historical recurring expenses" functionality? surely it's just like recurring appointments on calendars...

Hey guys I am a new user in trial right now and just ran into this problem - I cannot believe that FAC will not historically recur an expense. I have many home paid expenses to add in and it is December - guess what? I am not spending the time to put in 12 entries for every item - it defeats the whole purpose of a recurring entry.
Quoting Ed from 3 years ago "We're going to update FreeAgent in the next month or so to support the behaviour you're probably expecting: that you should be able to create a sequence of historical recurring expenses leading up to today"
Come on FAC - I am trying hard to give you my business - my mantra is "the system needs to work for me - not me work for the system"
How about an update of progress after your promise to do it and 3 years of requests since? -

Just like to add that I'm having this problem as well. An update would be good.
