Is there any way of searching for an single item, ie. Bank account transaction?
I'm finding I need to navigate to individual items and have to keep clicking on each month trying to find them.

Hi everyone
As you can see we over-promised in the original answer to this thread rather a long time ago. We shouldn't have done this and we have learned a painful lesson.
We do still plan to offer better searching within the application, but it has slipped down the development roadmap somewhat due to more popular feature requests and more pressing issues.
We're really sorry we can't give you the answer you want right now -- it's actually really frustrating for us too, as we have so many ideas and so many feature requests to work on but unfortunately only a finite number of developers and time.
If we start to see a lot more requests for this feature though, it will soon make it to the top of the roadmap.

@chocistar,
This is really high on our priority list for the next two months.
In the meantime, if you select an entire year as the statement period (or invoice list period or whatever), you could use your browser's find function to locate the transactions you need...
Not ideal, but we'll be offering much better soon... -
-
Hi there, I've also been waiting for this super essential feature and was wondering if you can give us an update/ETA for this since your last reply on this was a year ago... and I could *really* need it, trying to sort my receipts for the whole year

Ed's reply said you'll be offering better soon... That was 11 months ago. Any update on this?

It would be really useful if you could publish somekind of development routemap with milestones for these kinds of tools. It would probably cutout alot of these threads too...

Thanks for the response! It would be a great feature but there is a workable work around... using the browsers find... I do agree with Giles... a routemap with milestones would be great! Keep up the good work!

I'd like to throw my weight behind this - I would love the ability to search through recurring invoice profiles (in my case for a particular domain name).
+1 for a viewable roadmap too. -

Just posted in another topic on the same subject - but notice here that if enough people request it, it might rise up the road-map. Well, here's my request! (Thanks for the work-around though)
As a matter of interest Olly - where would you expect to see the requests for the feature? - would it be useful to have a list of requested features and allow a poll to see which features were of most interest to everyone? Maybe we could each choose five proposed features and rank them 1 to 5? -

another vote for this please. I assume the only way is to now go through month on month searching for transactions.

There is a workaround, (which you may already know about).
First open 'Accounting' from the Main Menu Bar and select 'Show Transactions'. In 'Select an Account', choose 'Show all Accounts',
You can then use the browser search function. (CTRL + F usually).
A bit clunky, but it works! -

Hello,
I am finally using the demo at last is they anyway to search a bill like the transactions one above ? -
-
Whilst FreeAgent is currently above the other online applications I have tried in the UK, there are things I am baffled by.
FreeAgent is essentially a database and the facility to search a database should be accepted as a core function, not something to be put on a roadmap. Is this not a basic function that should be addressed prior to more ambitious projects? -
-
Please offer this feature. Of course I'd also like to be able to add tags and descriptions to transactions, to make it easier to search, but this would make FA much more useable
-
-
This is my #1 annoyance with FreeAgent. The lack of this feature frustrates me every time I use it.
I like to refer to previous expense, bill etc. explanations to make sure I'm naming them consistently, and I can't. As a result, I waste a lot of time looking through previous months looking for things by hand. -
-
It's disappointing to see that this is something that has been on the roadmap for 4 years now and not been implemented. We've just signed up for FreeAgent and are very happy with it in general, but it's crying out for the ability to search for bank transactions, invoices, etc.
Please implement this as soon as possible. -

Freeagent - I think the search-with-your-browser's-find-function "hack" worked when you didn't have to paginate your entries.
Now we have no choice but to paginate, and there's a max number of entries per page because of the pagination system (which it doesn't even remember what you set it to each time), it really has become a real chore to try and find things.
Surely this is more important and useful than at least *some* of the things you've implemented over the last four years?
If it's genuinely difficult - just say so - maybe people will give you some space, but if it's not, please do consider it, people clearly want it. I'm sure you'd agreed it's annoying not to be able to search data, whatever / wherever it is....
Rob.-
Hi Rob,
Doing search right (and well) is fairly difficult, but that's not the reason we haven't implemented it. We've implemented plenty of other challenging features and improvements over the past year or so,
The truth is it's just always slipped down the list as other things have been deemed more important at the time. I appreciate that's not always obvious why though.
I definitely agree it's annoying not being able to search, and I'm personally really keen we look at search as soon as we can, but I don't know exactly when that'll be.
Once we do start dev, we'll let you know though.
