A quick thought on the new attachment facility. It would be handy to have a place in Free Agent to store documents like copies of the previous year's accounts, company registration documents, minutes of AGMs and the like.
This is not an urgent one, but if there's a way of modding the current upload facility to provide a means of keeping all the official stuff relating to the company in one place then I'd certainly use it.

Hi James,
Yep, we're planning on introducing a company "filing cabinet" where you can upload any type of document you wish, as well as manage existing expense receipts etc.
I can't give you an exact ETA on this, but it shouldn't be too long. -

Could I give my idea another plug; again, not essential but it would be very useful to have a "filing cabinet".
A related idea would be a way to store a PDF of the HMRC's VAT return acknowledgement in a manner where it is easily accessible when inspecting the VAT period -

Hi James,
We've definitely not forgotten about this. We were talking about it the other day in fact, but the last few weeks have seen us focused on the redesign and then Estimates.
Once that's released we're going to sit down and prioritise the roadmap for the next few months and the filing cabinet will be part of that discussion.
Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer than that at the minute. -

@Roan,
Please consider updating the API once you have file hosting available so that us third party developers can do something with it :) Many thanks!-
Hi Mike,
As you're aware the API has taken a bit of a back seat as we've been pushing hard to develop other more popular application features. That said, support for attachments is already in the API:

I've seen the attachments but that only applies to invoices and not the all-important bank account entries.
Cheers,

I would find this immensely helpful as well. I have to constantly switch between my computer docs and my FAC browser window to really follow where I am with some clients.
Attaching documents specifically to invoice & estimate emails would be nice, but I'd like to do it even if I'm not mailing them out.
And be able to just associate documents with the project in general, not with any particular email or other document. -

3 years? Any update?
I believe that is a really valuable one to have. Would almost completely remove the reliance on paper. -

1Hello all,
We've now released the first phase of our file attachments:
http://www.freeagentcentral.com/centr...
Which lets you upload documents to your FreeAgent account. There's more improvement coming soon.
Hope everyone enjoys this!

How easy would it be to allow copy emails sent through FreeAgent to be posted straight into the new storage facility, thus saving the need to send copies to myself and store them off-line.
Obviously in an ideal world I would like a record of emails sent to be logged within the contact account details, but any advance would be welcome.

Reminders are crucial. Here's the current real world workflow for the problem:
Me: 'You were reminded three times by email'
Them: 'No I wasn't'
Me: 'Yes, you were'
Them: 'No, I wasn't. Check your logs'.
Me: 'I use FreeAgent. They're brilliant - I'll just log into my account and check... oh bugger....' -

Thanks for the reply.
Copy emails into storage was suggested as a stop-gap, but yes an audit trail is ultimately what I'm looking for and it is for all emails sent by your own servers (invoices, estimates, rerminders, statements etc.). You're right, I don't need a copy of the email itself, just a note that an invoice/reminder etc. was sent out on a particular date and the email address it was sent to.
I understand the scenario Mike Wilson refers to , though wouldn't find myself in that position since we keep copies of all emails on our own servers. This is not the best use of resources, particularly when an audit trail would do the job just as well without any key tapping this end. Who wants their inbox full of copy emails that then need to be filed?

Hi Clayton, Roan, James,
As a workaround, getting a copy of the email works although if I search my Google Apps email for "Invoice Reminder" I see:
"1-20 of hundreds".
Hundreds.
It would be very nice to be able to go back in time and not only obtain an audit report of sent emails/invoices but also to determine from the client account statement (or similar report) when a client paid, whether it was x days early or x days late. That way a picture can be built up over say a year and when the customer's account comes up for a review it would be an important tool.
I'm thinking about writing an app for this although at the moment I can't see how the API matches invoices to bank account entries. If it does, this might be a handy little widget although the need to determine how late a customer is after payment has been received and further - produce an audit log of emails sent - is certainly something that we, as customers, need.
All the best,
Mike -
