Manually forcing a bank feed

My suggestion is having the ability to force a bank feed update, currently our Natwest bank accounts gets updated early AM but we tend to check invoices etc around lunch time and so any transactions on that day will not show up in FAC the next day, despite it appearing in the bank.

So we have to log into bank to check and then either mark manually as paid in fac or check back later to see if its updated ..either way its a bit of a faff.

How about it FAC?! I know you are aware of my suggestion but I thought i'd put it "out there" as I cant be the only one with this annoying thing..can I?!

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for getting in touch with your suggestion. I can certainly see how this would be valuable to you, and open banking may present us with an opportunity to investigate this further across all of our bank feeds. As it's not on our current roadmap, I can't give any timescales around when this would happen, but I've added another vote to this on our feature request list, so rest assured that it won't get overlooked.

Many thanks,
Ruth

Thanks for the additional vote Carl, I'll make sure to record it. As I've said above, open banking may give us the opportunity to introduce this functionality, but I'm afraid it's not currently on our roadmap.

Warm regards,
Ruth

This would be amazing, the amount of times I have to wait 24hours just to mark an invoice as paid is frustrating.

Agreed to.  A useful feature because some times you've dedicate time to managing FA and want to get it done then and not wait till after the 0530 bank link as it is now.

A really simple win for me would be run the import at 09:00 or afterwards. Its appears to run about 08:30 in the morning which means the majority of the days payments are 24 late being imported.

I'm making the transition from QuickBooks to FreeAgent and, although I'm much preferring FreeAgent, not being able to refresh the bank feed is a big pain. I've upvoted the suggestion. Please consider making this a priority.

Same here, new to Freeagent and NatWest an mines not been updated for 3 days !!
Option to force an import would be good as I like to reconcile my bank account as soon as payments are made or receipts received.

Hi Freeagent.  I'd like to see a manual update too, or the bank feeds running more than once a day.  Xero has this functionality today, I can't imagine it to be hard to implement.

Now that you have switched to Open Banking I do hope this makes it on to the roadmap as a high priority item. Open Banking now means my bank is supported for automatic feeds, which is great, but I didn't expect this limitation.

I'm in the same situation. Would love the ability to refresh the bank feed on demand.

Same here, I think bank feed on demand is a must. The 24 hour lag is a bit annoying.

I wish my bank hadn't started supporting the bank feed. I couldn't refresh this at a point when I really needed transactions to be imported so I had to manually upload them which led to duplicate entries and now the bank feed seems to have frozen. Useless. I was more content with a manual process as at least I knew where I stood.

Hi there.

Thanks for getting in touch.

In order for me to look into the issues you are experiencing with your bank feed, specifically with it being frozen, could I please ask if you could email in to support@freeagent.com with this query?

If you could also ensure support access has been enabled on your FreeAgent account via the desktop (or mobile browser) login rather than the mobile app.

You can do this by clicking on either Support Access at the bottom of your screen (if available), or alternatively clicking on your business name at the top right, selecting Settings from the dropdown, then Support Access in the top section. When you check the Enable access box you'll see the support code directly underneath.

Please confirm the code on the email thread and myself or one of my colleagues will be happy to look into this for you.

Kind regards,

Amina Ahmed

I too would like to add my vote for a refresh button. I use Natwest so my account has a bank feed, but the data only comes through a day later and anything after 6.30 shows up on my Natwest account but doesn't seem to transfer over to Freeagent until the next day. It means my transactions are always a day behind at a minimum, so it is not showing me a true picture of my finances. If I was able to refresh manually (like I can with services such as money dashboard) then I would know that it was always current and correct.

I'm with Natwest and updated a few weeks ago to the open banking feed.
I've noticed this on the connections page withing FreeAgent
"No more waiting for bank feeds to update! Get real-time access to your most up-to-date banking data every single day. Go about your daily business, knowing that your bank transactions are being sent to you accurately – and automatically – through your FreeAgent account"

Now, I'm certainly not seeing Free Agent update real-time - more like 24 to 48 hours delay.

A question to FreeAgent - is this a configuration thing on your side, or an implementation "feature" from Natwest?

Having switched to open banking my feed is not imported daily. This means my real time accounts are often a few days behind. Having moved money around yesterday morning and have just logged in to explain the transactions but they've not yet arrived in FreeAgent.

A manual import button would be great... but please fix the dailys feed imports !!

the lack of a manual refresh option is a massive downgrade.  can't go in and explain payments just after making them, can't explain receipts until 24 or 48 hours after actually in bank account - this needs to be fixed!  either a manual refresh or an hourly updated feed...

This would definitely be useful, and I'm sure wouldn't cause too much burden on the APIs - apart from when us freelancers are desperately waiting for that invoice to be paid so we can eat!

We still need this option. However, I'm not convinced this isn't in part an issue at Natwest's end.  There are days I can be two days behind in things syncing.

I've recently signed up for a business account with Starling Bank.  I've configured this account in FA and enabled the bank feed (although for Starling it is done from the bank app not from FreeAgent).  I then transferred money from Natwest to Starling.  As the payment went through the faster payments system, I immediately got an alert from the Starling app to say money received.  I refreshed FA and the transaction was there immediately as well, and I was able to explain as a transfer.  A day later, I got the Natwest entry.  I'm going to get one of my clients to make a payment to my Starling account and see if the experience is the same.  I believe though that because the feed is configured from the Starling app, that this is a push to FA, not a pull.
With the Natwest account, I think there are two issues - it's a once-a-day pull, and Natwest do not reliably put data into the pull area so there isn't anything to import.

If you are in the UK, and want things to show immediately into FA, I think the best option at the moment is to choose one of the new banks that are not saddled with the legacy tech that gives this bad experience.  I have no affiliation to Starling, but would recommend them.  They are a "proper" bank so covered by the FSCS bank guarantee, not just backed off to another institution like some, and have a personal account with them and the experience has been good.

This thread is over a year old and we seem to be no further down the line.

FreeAgent - would it be possible to have an update regarding this? If this is just not on your radar / agenda it would be great to know.

yeah, it's pretty basic, why not implemented? my bank accounts can see each other and I can force it there. Shouldn't be too hard to put a button, with onclick={} and do the data feed!

Upvote. It shouldn't be too difficult to check the bank API manually as you're doing it already, presumably just with some sort of cron job?
